II International Colloquiums-Course Cycle June 19th and 20th, 2009 Organization: Margarida Calafate Ribeiro (Centre for Social Studies) and Silvio Renato Jorge (Federal Fluminense University, Brazil) Following the I international Colloquium-Course Cycle on Portuguese Language African Literatures organized by CES in 2007, dedicated to the study of Literatures from Angola and Mozambique, of which resulted the books ‘Lendo Angola’ (Org. Laura Cavalcante Padilha and Margarida Calafate Ribeiro; Afrontamento, 2008) and 'Moçambique: das palavras escritas' (Org. Margarida Calafate Ribeiro and Maria Paula Meneses; Afrontamento, 2008),we are now organizing the II International Colloquiums-Course Cycle dedicated to Literatures of Cape-Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Principe. We still remain with the main aim to present and rethink the literary systems of each African country of Portuguese language, abiding by the following guiding principles: - To critically present each country’s literatures, acknowledging in each one a literary, aesthetic and philosophical system absolutely anonymous and particular expressed in the Portuguese language; - To put in dialogue the main players regarding aesthetic and critical production of these literatures: the writers, national critics, Portuguese critics and foreign critics that work on these literatures. The intention is to render an approach of scientific excellence as what pertains to the various literary systems, their relation with society, space and time (colonial, post-independence and post-colonial). A final reflection will be dedicated to the relations of each one of these literatures with the history, politics, power and knowledge of their countries of origin and production.
