Diversity in the University

Researchers: Marta Araújo, Hugo Dias and Ricardo Cabrita

Every year, the University of Coimbra welcomes a high number of students coming from abroad, particularly from African countries where Portuguese is the official language. The programme ‘Diversity in the University’ offered the young students the opportunity of exploring and getting to know the diversity of the population of the University of Coimbra, allowing them to research issues such as: from where come the students of the University of Coimbra? Which are the difficulties they face? What do they think about Coimbra? What does the population of Coimbra think and know about them? This theme was explored through inquiries in downtown and uptown Coimbra.

Breeding and living (con)science

Researchers: Tiago Santos Pereira, Marisa Matias and António Farinhas Rodrigues

In our daily  life,  we often come across themes relating to science and technology, many of which receive much attention from the media. Science and innovation, medically assisted procreation, nuclear energy, stem cells, co-incineration or new technologies, are examples of some of the more inflamed public debates of the last years. These were approached by the students during the programme, which took place within the activities developed by the Project ‘Science in Parliament: a study of the border between science and politics’, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
