Patrícia Ferreira awarded for her thesis «When health professionals go beyond disease…»

Patrícia Ferreira was awarded the Eng. António de Almeida Foundation Award for the best doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC) for her work «When health professionals go beyond the disease: dialogues and translations between the "local" and the "global" towards new forms of health promotion», whose research was developed under the Doctoral Programme "Governance, Knowledge and Innovation".

Supervised by João Arriscado Nunes and Cláudia Souza, and publicly defended on 17 June 2021, it proposed «a reflective and multidisciplinary contribution focused on the urgency of another global health, capable of recognising the diversity of contexts in which its problems manifest themselves, as well as the biological, social, political, cultural and ecological processes that complexify and mark the need for better interventions in this field.»

For this award, funded by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, she was bestowed 1500 euros and the possibility of the thesis being published in book form.


Bio note

Patrícia Ferreira PhD in 'Governance, Knowledge, and Innovation', is a postdoctoral researcher at CES-UC in the Research Line "Risk(s), Ecologies, Health" group. She is also a collaborator researcher in the "Plataforma de Saberes" project at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (Fiocruz, Brasil). She has been working as a researcher and communication specialist in multi and interdisciplinary projects intersecting the fields of public health, social and life sciences and public engagement with science initiatives. From the social studies on health and medicine, medical anthropology and critical studies on public and global health, her interdisciplinary research on knowledge and communication focuses on promoting dialogues and collaborations between social sciences, life and health sciences and society.
