Reclaiming Queers, Crips and Other Misfits

May 17 to 21, 2020, Centre for Social Studies | University of Coimbra (Portugal)



Applicants should preferably be PhD students in the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities interested in exploring the issues of gender, LGBT, queer, disability/crip and related areas. Applicants who are not registered as PhD students but hold demonstrated experience and interest in research in topics relevant to the CFP will also be considered. Topics of interest include:

Ageing bodies
Animal Studies
Biopolitics/necropolitics
Crip and/or disability studies
Critical (in)human rights
Decolonial and postcolonial studies
Fat studies
Intersex and trans* children
Mad studies
Monstrous embodiments
Post humanism
Queer studies
LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers
Sexual and gender dissidence

To apply, you need to:
Submit a longer abstract about your PhD topic (1000 words maximum)
Submit a motivation letter answering the following (700 words):
- Why would you like to be part of this Summer School in particular?
- How does it fit your interests, how do you think it would enrich your knowledge and how could you contribute to the group discussion?
Submit a biographical note (250 words maximum - the bio note is to be circulated in advance amongst selected participants)

To apply, you need to:
