Documentary “creatour.pt” finalist of the Festival ART&TUR Viseu 2020

The documentary "creatour.pt - creative tourism in Portugal" is part of the finalists list of the ART&TUR Viseu 2020 - International Tourism Film Festival, which takes place in Viseu, between October 20th and 23rd.

Through an inspiring journey throughout the country, this documentary highlights the first-hand experience of some of the creative tourism initiatives that have been developed under the CREATOUR project, coordinated by the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra.

The objectives of this film are to (i) to highlight the organisations in Portugal that have designed and implemented a wide range of creative tourism offers within the scope of the CREATOUR project, as co-researchers, entrepreneurs and catalysts of local networks; (ii) to promote the concept of creative tourism as a small-scale and community-based sustainable tourism; (iii) to highlight Portugal as a tourist destination promoting the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage and the defence of sustainable tourism practices through creative experiences and cultural immersion; and (iv) to present the main dimensions of the multidisciplinary research-action project CREATOUR, which has inspired other creative tourism initiatives internationally.

In the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic, where travel has been restricted and destinations are seeking new tourism models for the future, creative tourism is well positioned to contribute significantly to post-pandemic tourism. Being by nature designed for small groups (e.g. families or "social bubbles"), it is fully aligned with the growing focus on domestic tourism and longer stays in one place. With a high diversity of activities, the great potential of creative tourism is its transversality, being able to complement the different segments of demand in the different types of tourism that exist. Providing solutions for local regeneration, both in terms of traditions and local specificities, creative tourism fosters more conscious options, with clear benefits for the community. In this sense, the principles of sustainable and responsible tourism are also applied, with special attention to careful management and local impacts.

The documentary has already won four international awards: Silafest Festival (Serbia), 1st place in the category "The Blue Danube - Tourism Services" and 1st place in the category "The Blue Danube - Tourism Products Cultural Tourism"; Terres Travel Festival Films & Creativity (Spain), 2nd place in the category "History and Heritage"; Zagreb TourFilm Festival (Croatia), 2nd place in the category "The Best TV Reportage".

It is also on the list of finalists of Nature & Tourism Film Festival (Germany) and Travel FilmFest - TRAFF (Cyprus) and is on the list of films present at Arraial Cine Fest 11 (Brazil)
