Humberto Figueiredo


Humberto Figueiredo began his artistic studies in Coimbra, concluding the university degree in Artistic Technologies in 1992. In 1996, he concluded his degree in Plastic Arts - Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where he was recipient of the Eng. António de Almeida Award. He is a Researcher holding a PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, and his PhD thesis has obtained the highest classification. Currently, he conducts his Post-Doctoral Project at CES, as part of the Research Group on Cities, Culture and Architecture. Since 1996, he has been an academic education lecturer in the Art field - Coimbra University School of Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and Coimbra Polytechnic Institute - directing several curricular units as well as specialized and advanced level creative projects in the areas of Art and Design. He was a Visiting Lecturer, under the Erasmus in the Socrates Programme, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid. As a researcher, he develops theoretical and theoretical-practical research within the Fine Arts and mainly in Sculpture, and in the frontier territories between Sculpture, Architecture and Painting. He also researches the creative and technological fields associated with wood as a primary material in sculpture, architecture and three-dimensional design. He is also interested in research on the foundations and practices of Art in certain social and cultural contexts.
