Conditions of Access

1. The Centre for Social Studies (CES) accepts applications from Portuguese and foreign researchers for its Post-doctoral Programmes.

2. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree obtained less than five years prior to application.

2.1. Exceptionally, applications may be accepted from applicants having obtained their doctoral degree more than five years prior to application.

2.2. Conditionally, applications may be accepted from researchers whose doctoral dissertations will be concluded within a period not exceeding three months.

3. Applications must attach the following:

- Curriculum vitae;

- Project to be developed at the Centre;

- Recommendation from the CES researcher who agreed to be the post-doctoral project supervisor, or who has been appointed to this position by the Scientific Board;

- Other relevant elements (e.g., letters of recommendation; relevant publications).

4. Post-doctoral stays must be a minimum of one year. Exceptionally, this period may be reduced to a minimum of six months.

5. Applications will be assessed by the Scientific Board, through its Coordinating Committee. In case of approval, the Centre will testify to the funding entities its readiness to act as host institution. Applicants are expected to secure the necessary funding to cover their stay. Under no circumstances will the Centre assume responsibilities in this area.

6. CES post-doctoral students’ statute corresponds to the associate researcher category, with the inherent rights and duties. It establishes the post-doctoral students’ obligation to conduct a seminar on their research, to publish at least one Oficina do CES and to participate, in general, in the scientific activities of the Centre.
