| Previous Traineeships 2007 Observing justice! Researchers: Conçeição Gomes, Catrina Trincão, Fátima de Sousa, Diana Fernandes, Madalena Duarte and Paulo Fernando How do justice institutions work? Which are the difficulties posed to hem presently? What is the “reality” of justice? Who are the actors? During five days the students had direct contact with Portuguese justice. Beyond getting to know the methodologies and work developed in the Permanent Observatory for Portuguese Justice. They also had the opportunity of visiting magistrates courts, the Judicial Police and the Penitentiary of Coimbra.
2006 Diversity in the University Researchers: Marta Araújo, Hugo Dias and Ricardo Cabrita The University of Coimbra welcomes every year a high number of students coming from several countries, particularly from African Countries of Official Portuguese Language (PALOP). The programme ‘Diversity in the University’ offered the young students the opportunity of exploring and getting to know the diversity of the population of the University of Coimbra, allowing them to research issues such as: from where come the students of the University of Coimbra? Which are the difficulties posed to them? What do they think about Coimbra? What does the population of Coimbra think and know about them? This theme was explored through inquiries in the downtown and uptown of Coimbra. Researchers: Tiago Santos Pereira, Marisa Matias and António Farinhas In our daily life we often come across themes relating to science and technology, being many mediatized issues up-to-date: science and innovation, medically assisted procreation, nuclear energy, stem cells, co-incineration or new technologies, are examples of some of the more inflamed public debates of the last years and were approached by the students during this traineeship, that took place within the activities developed by the Project ‘Science in Parliament: a study of the border between science and politics’, financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology.
