Democracy, Multicultural Citizenship and Participation Research Group Seminar Ronaldo Almeida, Unicamp January 18th, 20110, 17:00 - 19:00, CES Seminar Room, 2nd Floor, Coimbra The seminar has for aim the analysis of the transformations occurring in daily urban relations, and social and personal dispositions, in face of the framework of exclusivist religious pluralism, marked by the quantitative growth and influence conquered by the so-called evangelic field in the Brazilian religious setting. The notions of tolerance and exclusivism are here taken as ideal types, used as instruments for the analysis of relations between religious (in)tolerance and public space. More than the dissemination of the religious field, the visibility and disposition towards exclusivism are pointed out as their main features. In the motion to accept the “other” there is, concomitantly, a generalized reaffirmation of exclusive religious identities. Ronaldo de Almeida holds a Doctoral Degree in Social Anthropology at the University of São Paulo, Coordinator of the Research of the Centre for Metropolitan Studies and professor of the Department of Anthropology of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp). |
