Presentation

This seminar intends to present partial data from an ongoing research, supported by CNPq (National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development), that develops studies about the discourses used in History and Portuguese language school manuals in Portuguese-speaking African countries – Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, São Tomé e Príncipe – and also Portugal and Brazil. The aim is to analyze textual, verbal and visual genres, chosen to compile those works, as well as the students’ activities, in relation to representations of black people and ethnic-racial relationships, approaching racism and discourse and the discursive centrality of white as humanity standard. This lecture reflects an ongoing research coordinated by Aracy Alves Martins (UFMG).
