Presentation
The Permanent Observatory for Portuguese Justice will organize an International Colloquium on “Towards a European Area of Justice”, within the scope of the project “The European arrest warrant in law and in practice: a comparative study for the consolidation of the European law-enforcement area”.
This colloquium takes place within a research project which aims to strengthen the knowledge and comparative analysis of the conditions for application of the European Arrest Warrant in different countries within the Schengen Area. This is a project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the Centre for Social Studies, within the Permanent Observatory for Portuguese Justice, having as partner entities both academic institutions and judges’ associations from the participating countries (Portugal, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands)
During this colloquium, this study’s main conclusions will be presented and discussed. In the light of the Lisbon Treaty, this is also intended to be a moment of reflection on the challenges faced by European Union regarding the creation of a common area of justice.
