CHAPTER I - General Provisions

Article 1
Scope

This regulation applies to all Junior Researchers (JR) and concerns the framework for cooperation as provided in CES' Statutes for this category.

Article 2
Definition

The Junior Researcher will, on a full time basis and for a period of more than 3 months, continually develop activities in research projects for CES, as well as participate in other activities as established in Article 2 of the CES' Statutes.

Article 3
Institutional Connection

1. The JR statute is automatically attributed with the start of the activities established in the previous article every time there is a collaboration of more than 3 months.

2. The JR statute can continue beyond the term of the research projects, if the collaboration with CES continues on a regular basis and pending approval by the research group to which the JR belongs.

Article 4
Organization

1. The RJs meet in JR Assembly to discuss all matters relevant to the collaboration with CES, their activities and training, their integration in the scientific system. In the Assembly the RJs also elect their representatives at CES' social bodies.

2. The summons for the Assembly is sent by post to all RJs through the list of electronic contacts of the RJs at CES, and it indicates the date, place and order of business.

3. The RJs usually meet twice a year and exceptionally every time an Assembly is summoned by at least five RJs.

 

CHAPTER II - The participation of JRs in CES' social bodies

Article 5
Participation in CES' social bodies

1. The JRs have the right to participate in CES' General Assemblies, without voting rights, in accordance with Art. 10 of CES' Statutes.

2. The JRs have the right to participate in CES' Scientific Board and the Permanent Commission of the Scientific Board, without voting rights, through an elected representative, in accordance with Art. 18 of CES' Statutes, in Assembly.

3. The JRs have the right to meet with CES' Management through a representative elected for that purpose, upon their request or the request of CES' Management, every time an issue needs to be resolved within the framework of this body's scope of action.

Article 6
Election of representatives

1. The JRs elect their representatives before the Management and the Scientific Board for one year terms of office, in a meeting summoned exclusively for that purpose.

2. The term of office of the representative can be revoked in Assembly, summoned in writing exclusively for that effect by at least 2/3 of the JRs, with a majority vote of 2/3 of the individuals present.

 

CHAPTER III - Integration in scientific research activities

Article 7
Recognition of scientific participation and co-authorship

1. The scientific participation and co-authorship of the work developed by the JR in research projects will be recognized through communications, articles, chapters, reports and/or books. Other activities to which the JR contributed scientifically in a significant manner will also be recognized, after a weighted and fair assessment by the Lead Researcher and/or the Coordination of the integrating Group.

2. The JRs can use data and information collected and worked as part of the research projects they participated in, for publication and/or public presentation of results, as long as they respect the authorship rights and mention the project within which they were collected, after obtaining prior consent from the Lead Researcher.

Article 8
Stimulus for Masters and PhD Theses

1. Through the Lead Researchers, CES must encourage Masters and Doctoral students to develop their theses, mainly in connection with the research projects.

2. For their theses, the JRs have the right to use partial or global data they have helped to collect and treat as part of a research project to which the thesis is associated, after obtaining consent from the Lead Researcher of the project, even after the project is completed. They are obliged to mention the project and its authorship.

 

CHAPTER IV - JRs' Rights and Responsibilities

Article 9
Conditions for advanced training (diploma)

1. CES will provide the JRs with the best conditions possible for advanced training, without prejudice to the total compliance of the activity plan and the objectives of the research project in which the JR is integrated.

2. The JRs attending the teaching component of the studies in order to obtain a diploma (post-graduation, Masters or PhD) must be allowed to attend lectures and carry out tests, if it does not collide in absolute with the interests of the research project the JR integrates.

3. Without prejudice to the compliance of the goals defined for the JR within the research project, the Lead Researcher must ensure compatibility between the tasks carried out by the JR within the research project and the Masters or PhD work plan, thus envisaging dispensation periods and the adjustment of holiday periods.

Article 10
Academic degree alteration for scholarships

If the JR changes their academic degree after signing a scholarship agreement as part of a research project, CES will propose to update the scholarship value with the Financing Institution, upon recognition by the Lead Researcher of financial availability within the research project and agreement with a budget change.

Article 12
Responsibilities

All JRs at CES must:

1. Promptly comply with the Activity Plan established, as well as other administrative obligations, in accordance with the guidance and approval of the Lead Researcher, and in collaboration with the rest of the research project team the JR integrates.

2. Comply with the internal functioning regulations of CES and the guidelines of the Lead Researcher.

3. Actively participate in CES' extension, academic and scientific activities, particularly the ones related to the Group the JR integrates, in accordance with the guidelines of the Lead Researcher.

 

CHAPTER I - Final Provisions

Article 13
Right of appeal

1. The JR can place a complaint regarding scientific matters before the Scientific Board, and must be available to meet and/or participate in meetings that the board finds necessary to clarify the facts.

2. The JR can place a complaint regarding administrative, functional, financial and/or logistic matters before the Management, and must be available to meet and/or participate in meetings that the board finds necessary to clarify the facts.

Article 14
General Provisions

1. The matters not covered by this Regulation will be assessed by the Management and/or Scientific Board, together with the JR representatives, in accordance with the applicable legislation in force.

2. This Regulation comes into effect on the day after its approval in CES's General Assembly.
