Representations of postmemory

What is shown by the post-memory of the Colonial Wars which we have been studying—be it in gathering second-generation testimonies, or in the critical appreciation of artistic and cultural production of post-memory (a phenomenon visibly expanding)—consists also of the fact that the Colonial War in Africa generates, from the children’s viewpoint, a mechanism of acknowledgement and interrogation, first in the family sphere and then in the public sphere, in the case of authorial gestures.

We leave some examples of artistic products by ‘Children of the Colonial Wars’, a generation that doesn’t have first-hand knowledge of the war, but of which it constructs a representation drawing on fragments they gather from private and public narratives.
