Ana Cristina Santos
Biography
With a background in Sociology and a PhD in Gender Studies, University of Leeds, UK, Ana Cristina Santos works as a Principal Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra. Over the years she has coordinated a number of research projects and published extensively on LGBTQI+, gender, dissident bodies, intimate citizenship and human rights. In 2014-2019 she was awarded a Research Grant by the European Research Council to lead the cross-national study INTIMATE - Citizenship, Care and Choice: The micropolitics of intimacy in Southern Europe (www.ces.uc.pt/intimate). She is currently the PI in Portugal of two international projects: CILIA LGBTQI+ Lives, funded by the European Agency NORFACE, and Diversity and Childhood, funded by the European Commission (2019-2021). Vice-chair of the European Sociological Association Sexuality RN(2012-2016), Vice-President of CES Scientific Board (2013-2016) and President of CES Ethics Committee (2017-2020), since 2013 she is Co-Director of the PhD Program Human Rights in Contemporary Societies. Significant publications include Social Movements and Sexual Citizenship in Southern Europe (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) and Sexualities Research: Critical Interjections, Diverse Methodologies, and Practical Applications (Routledge, 2017, with A. King and I. Crowhurst). Her most recent book is The SAGE Handbook of Global Sexualities (forthcoming, 2 volumes, coedited 2020).
