Biography

TIAGO SANTOS PEREIRA is Principal Resarcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, developing his research within the Research Group on Science, Economy and Society (NECES). With a DPhil in Science and Technology Policy Studies, from SPRU, University of Sussex, his research, drawing on Science and Technology Studies (STS) and Innovation Studies, has focused on the policies and governance of science and technology and the modes of circulation of knowledge and articulation between public sector research, business, public decision making and society. His research has focused on the Portuguese context, as well as on European and international dynamics. He is also Associate Researcher of CoLABOR - Collaborative Laboratory for Work, Employment and Social Protection, where he develops research on Work, Employment and Technology. He is Co-Director of the Doctoral Programme 'Governance, Knowledge and Innovation', at the intersection of STS, Innovation Studies, and Institutional Economics, in partnership between CES and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC). Between 2015 and 2018 he was Head of the Office for Studies and Strategy of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the national research funding agency. He is Vice-Chair of the OECD Working Party on Technology and Innovation Policy (TIP), and is National Delegate to the OECD's Committee on Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP). He was the Executive-Director of CES between 2006 and 2008, and Vice-President of the Scientific Council between 2011 and 2012. Besides his research work, he has sought to collaborate with different S&T policy-making institutions, namely with the European Commission, UNESCO, FCT, CYTED, Science Europe. He was National Delegate in the Programme Committee of the 7th Framework Programme, under the priority on 'Socio-Economic Sciences and Humanities' and a member of the Network Board of the ERA-NET NORFACE, representing the Foundation for Science and Technology. He is an avid runner, having ran 10 marathons in different cities worldwide.
