Biography

João Paulo Dias is a sociologist, Master and PhD in Sociology of Law, Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra. He is currently Researcher of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, where he acted as Executive Director between 2011 and 2020. He is a member of the Permanent Observatory of Justice (OPJ/CES) since 1996, where he coordinated, integrated or collaborated in multiple national and international researches on the issues of access to law and justice, rule(s) of law, role of the Public Prosecutors, governance and judicial organization, legal and judicial professions and, more recently, working conditions in the judicial system. He is professor at the Doctoral Programme in Sociology of the State, Law and Justice (FEUC / CES) and Cocoordinator of the Barometer of National Anti-Corruption Strategies (OPJ / CES). He is (co)author of several book and book chapters on the developed research topics, as well as articles in national and international professional and scientific journals.
