Methods
As a transdisciplinar study, it applied diverse methods of data collection. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the gathering of private and public narratives of the Colonial Wars and in the study of the vulnerability factors for trauma.
Thus, the research process was comprised of two phases:
1– with offspring of war veterans: a semi-structured interview about their memories of the war.
2 – with offspring of war veterans and their parents: questionnaires and collection of saliva samples for the study of vulnerability factors for trauma.
Participants were Portuguese people, born between 1960 and 1985, and their parents.
The project totalizes 465 participants, of which 223 are offspring of the generation contemporary to the Colonial Wars. From the 130 families participating, 111 participated as a group: parents and children. 83 families were categorised as group A (families whose father is war veteran) and 28 as group B (families whose father did not fight in Africa).
Researchers are truly thankful for the generous and patient participation of all families!

This process ensures officially the security conditions and confidentiality of the data in this project.
Only people that voluntarily accept the conditions set forth in the informed consent will take part in the project. Each participant will be given the possibility to consult, review or eliminate data initially provided, or to quit at any phase of the project.
