The International Seminar “Deinstitutionalization of mental illness and community care: families, social networks and services” will take place on October 26th, In Lisbon, with the goal of presenting and discussing the results of a study, conducted at the Centre for Social Studies of Coimbra, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, under the same subject.

This study, conducted by a team of researchers and coordinated by the sociologist Pedro Hespanha, analyses the impact of deinstitutionalization in mental health care and evaluated the response capability of families, social networks, local organizations and services, in a time marked by the ongoing mental health national plan which aims at promoting the services’ decentralization and reducing institutionalization. In order to comment the results, we have invited national and international experts with different experiences on this subject.

The seminar will take place at CES-Lisbon and the entrance is free of charge, although we recommend a prior online registration due to the limited number of available seats (88).

CES-Lisbon is located at Picoas Plaza, in the first floor and is accessible through Rua do Viriato or Rua Tomás Ribeiro (Picoas subway station). Works will be conducted at CIUL Auditory.
