About

The relationship between doctor and patient represents a fundamental element in the therapeutic treatment of diseases and in the overall organisation of the healthcare system. Recent studies show a still relevant need for collaboration and humanisation of this relationship. On the one hand, there are still colonial, hetero-patriarchal and capacitist legacies in the formation of medical professions. On the other hand, there is an increasing importance of including the patients' voice in the construction of the therapeutic relationship, especially when patients incorporate experiences of sexist, homophobic or racist oppression. In this seminar, we reflect on alternative forms of relationship between doctor and patient through the encounter with some good practices developed in Portugal.
