About

Under the motto "Feminist Talks", the XII edition of the Gender Workshop Series proposes a series of talks with people from different areas of intervention and work in the field of gender equality and women's dignity and well being in Portugal and Galicia. In this session, we will talk with Uxía, based on her work.

Bio note

Uxía is considered the great lady of Galician music. In the more than 30 years of her artistic career, she has renewed traditional Galician music by connecting it with Atlantic cultures, mixing it with morna, fado and Brazilian rhythms.

Since her debut with Foliada de marzo in 1986, her work represents a meeting point of different cultures and she has created her repertoire through her continuous travels and exchanges with musicians from Brazil, Portugal, Cape Verde or Guinea-Bisau, such as João Afonso, Dulce Pontes, Rui Veloso or Tito Paris.

She has published 12 albums, for which she received important awards, among which stand out the Critics Award Galicia 2016 or the Best Roots Music Album under the Indie Music Awards España por Meu canto, also selected as Top of the World by the British magazine Songlines. Among other projects, she is the artistic director and alma mater of the Festival Internacional da Lusofonía, Cantos na maré
