REPLAY Lecture Series

Coloniality Regimes

Michel Cahen (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique)

October 31, 2023, 14h00

Gonçalves da Silva Room, Faculty of Economics of University of Coimbra

Moderator: Teresa Almeida Cravo (CES/FEUC)

Overview

The concept of coloniality is of paramount importance in postcolonial and decolonial theories. But, to avoid a purely epistemic turn, it needs to be historicised and take into account that colonial contexts exist within the framework of the diversity of capitalisms. From the author's critical position - albeit not hostile - towards the post- and decolonial currents, this lecture will explore the various regimes of coloniality's historicity.
