Bio

Vinoth Ramachandra is the Secretary for Dialogue & Social Engagement for the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. He is a trenchant thinker, author, and social critic who writes broadly on issues of social engagement, ethnic and religious pluralism, scientism, human rights and other moral and ethical questions, and Christian theology. He lives in Sri Lanka with his Danish wife Karin, whom he married in December 1998.

Vinoth was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he also had his secondary schooling. He holds bachelors and doctoral degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of London. Instead of pursuing an academic career, he returned to Sri Lanka in 1980 and helped to pioneer an evangelical student movement in that country. In 1987, he began serving as the South Asian Regional Secretary for IFES, a global missionary partnership of over 130 autonomous, evangelical student movements. His multi-faceted ministry includes training of national staff, lectures in universities, and biblical exposition at student conferences. Vinoth is the author of “The Recovery of Mission, Gods That Fail, Faiths in Conflict, and Subverting Global Myths”.

Vinoth is involved with various groups in Sri Lanka that seek to empower the poor and bring reconciliation to a war-torn island. He has been a visiting lecturer in theological colleges in Sri Lanka, India, England and Canada. He also serves on theological commissions, both ecumenical and evangelical, but feels a special calling to equip 'lay' Christians to relate biblical truths and values to their work and everyday world.
