Cities, Cultures, and Architecture (CCArq)
Presentation

Coordination: Gonçalo Canto Moniz, Nancy Duxbury and Paulo Peixoto

Cities, urbanism, and architecture, as well as reflections about the heritages and cultures associated with them, constitute the core subjects of this CES research group. Centered on the latest issues and socio-cultural urban dynamics, the work of this group incorporates and develops a body of theoretical and ethodological approaches that is creative and interdisciplinary in order to provide concrete answers to real problems, nationally and internationally. The work is intended to cross and recombine perspectives from socio-anthropology, arts and cultural studies, architecture, and the organization, uses, and images of city space to analyze urban lifestyles and means of resistance, socioeconomic conditions of residents, the impacts of tourism, affirmations of cultural expressions, and the democratic governance of cities. Studies on architectural theory and history and on the history of construction contribute to the interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives and approaches within this research group.
