White Coats for Black Lives

Overview

White Coats for Black Lives is an organisation of students from different medical schools of universities in the United States, with a relevant role in the anti-racist movement and affirmation of the rights of the African American population. It was created in 2015 following public mobilisations and demonstrations against discrimination and racism and in defence of life, which took place in December 2014.  Its objectives include the elimination of racism in the practice of medicine and its recognition as a public health problem; the promotion of initiatives for the transformation of medical training; research into the implications of racism; initiatives to tackle racism, discrimination and inequality in health; and a recruitment and promotion policy that recognises the importance and contribution of African American, Latino and Native American communities to  medical education addressed as public interest and social justice and the realisation of the right to health.
