Overview

The Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, under the Doctoral Programme "Feminist Studies" (CES/FLUC), in partnership with the Doctoral Programme in "Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship" (CES/FEUC), offers a meeting in Coimbra with Brazilian author Conceição Evaristo. The programme includes a lecture by the author and a reading of excerpts of her texts by Raquel Lima and Luciana Carmo (spoken word poets/performers). At the end there will be a Q&A and also a book signing.

Conceição Evaristo is an author. Fictionist and essayist. Master in Brazilian Literature at PUC/Rio, PhD in Comparative Literature at UFF. Her first published work (1990) appears in the series «Cadernos Negros» of the Quilombhoje group. Seven published books, including Jabuti winner Olhos D'Agua (2015), four others translated into English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

Minas Gerais Government Prize for or the collection of her work; Nicolás Guillén Prize for Literature by the Caribbean Philosophical Association; Master  of the Peripheries Prize by the Maria e João Aleixo Institute (all in 2018!). Honoured at several Literary Fairs, that same year,  mãe de Ainá - her special girl - had three of her seven books approved by the National PNLD and also  Honored author of the Portuguese Language Olympics by Itaú Social, in 2019. During this year she also published «Poemas da Recordação e Outros Movimentos», in a bilingual edition (Portuguese/French), at the Paris Book Fair. She will be honoured by the Jabuti Prize as literary personality later this year.
