Scientific merit medal awarded to Boaventura de Sousa Santos

The Auditorium of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra (UC) hosted the debate "E Se...?/What if...? Science and Scientific Culture in the Future of Europe".

The event was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), Manuel Heitor, and included the awarding of the scientific merit medal to Boaventura Sousa Santos, Emeritus Director of the Centre for Social Studies at the UC.

As part of the lectures’ series " E Se...?/What if...? ", which puts young people born after Portugal's entry into the European Union in dialogue with those who contributed to building the Europe of today, the debate, promoted by Ciência Viva agency, included interventions of the President of Ciência Viva, Rosalia Vargas, and of MCTES, Manuel Heitor.

The closing ceremony, after the awarding of the scientific merit medal to Boaventura Sousa Santos, Emeritus Director of the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra and Scientific Coordinator of the Permanent Observatory of Justice, was conducted by the MCTES, Manuel Heitor, and the Rector of the UC, Amílcar Falcão.
