About
This seminar examines how the mobilization of the emotions of fear, trauma, and moral panic are changing the grammar and syntax of the body politic and imagined community, and setting the stage for new articulations of racialized (or, rather, intersectional) anthropocene capitalism.

This theme includes a discussion of concepts such as sites of disaster and sites for disaster, semiotic power of the border, colonial archives and figures of race/constructions of whiteness, white anxiety/innocence vs. the barbarian (from migrants to COVID) and its catastrophes to narrative borders of fear/panic, and the mobilization of trauma to redefine national and international hierarchies
