Open Workshops on Cultural Heritage: Sharing Collaborative Experiences

9th WORKSHOP | Rescuing History, co-creating the Present: the community participation methodologies of the CONVENTUS Project

October 28, 2025, 14h30-16h30

Sala 2.37, Edifício 1, FCHS, University of Algarve + Online

The CONVENTUS project, ‘New perspectives on the building of the Convent of São José in Lagoa’, presents an inclusive and pluralistic perspective on the building of the former Convent of São José in Lagoa, Algarve, Portugal. To this end, it applies a diachronic approach to the study of its history, architecture, urban impacts, and social interactions throughout its more than three centuries of existence, prioritising the use of participatory methodologies that actively involve the local population in all its fascinating diversity.

In this OWCH, we will present the structure, methodologies and results of the project together with the local community of Lagoa, who will be present in person to share their experience with us.

Partner institutions: FCHS/UALG, Municipality of Lagoa
