About

Given the complexity of the challenges that today threaten sustaining life on Planet Earth, the growing inequalities and social injustices and the contradictions of sustainable development, it is important to develop a “critical ecological reading” of the world.

ParaDocma, from PARADigma, DOCumentário and DOgMA, is an initiative that brings together several local groups and organisations, a Film Series that intends to energize the city of Coimbra with the aim of promoting “home study”, in this case, to create dialogue on pressing ecological issues in various spaces of the city of Coimbra. It is an itinerant event because it intends to divulge the associative spaces and the public spaces of the city to the population and, thus, to know the existing local material and immaterial resources.

Paradocma is an initiative jointly organised by Casa da Esquina, Cine Eco Seia and the Ecology and Society Lab of the Centre for Social Studies - UC, in collaboration with other local organisations.  We are privileged to have Cine Eco Seia, the main environmental film festival in Portugal, as a partner and to have screening rights for award-winning films in Coimbra. In this edition, the sessions will be held at Casa da Esquina and at Avelar Brotero Secondary School. This double session is held in partnership with the SOS Racism movement and will have the commentary of José João Lucas representing this association.

SOS Racismo: 20 anos a quebrar tabus by Bruno Moraes Cabral (Documentary, 31 mim)
Synopsis: This documentary recovers in the first person some of the most remarkable stories of two decades of fight against discrimination(s). By reviewing the association’s path, the documentary provides an insight into the history of the anti-racist struggle in Portugal and, at the same time, addresses other struggles and other discriminations. Due to its historical importance and the wide range of themes, this film is an important tool for promoting the debate on discrimination.
