Biography

Juliana holds a Degree in Political Science, a Masters Degree in Political Sociology at Santa Catarina Federal University and is presently attending the Doctoral Programme "Democracy in the 21st Century" at the Centre for Social Studies. Such an academic training enabled her, during the years 2000 and 2006, a combination of a train of papers regarding relations between State, market and society; State reform and its reflections on social policies and the emergence of phenomena related to the third sector and its articulations with other institutions, in different parts of Brazil such as the city of Rio de Janeiro and the Amazon Region. Between 2005 and 2007, whilst her masters research, she devoted special interest and broadened her consideration towards the different social, cultural, economical and environmental impacts posed onto populations directly affected by industrial hydroelectric plants, such as dams for great dimension plants. Since January 2008, she is a Junior Researcher for the Observatory of Participation Practices, collaborating in different activities, amongest them the Project "Participative Budget Portugal - more participation, better democracy".
