Lorena Sancho Querol

Biography

Researcher in the area of Social Museology at the Research Group of Cities, Cultures and Architectures (CCArq) of the Center for Social Studies. Graduated in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid (1995), Master (2005) and PhD in Social Museology (2012) from the Lusophone University of Lisbon, having performed her PhD on participatory inventories of intangible cultural heritage under the EEA Grants Project "Celebration of Coastal Culture" (PT0019/EEA-grants). In the post-doctorate I developed the SoMus project "Society in the Museum: study on cultural participation in local European museums" with the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology, Portugal (2014-18). I was visiting professor from abroad in the PVE/CAPES/Brazil Program between 2015 and 2016, and was also part of the CREATOUR project coordination team, "Creative Tourism Destination Development in Small Cities and Rural Areas" (P-2020), between 2016 and 2020. Currently I coordinate the CES team of the ECHOES project, "European Colonial Heritage Modalities in Entangled Cities" (H-2020, ENG-GLOBALLY-01-2017), together with Paulo Peixoto. With a long teaching experience, among my research themes stands out the creation of participatory management models in local museums, the development of processes of social legitimation of cultural heritage through mechanisms of collective action such as cultural mapping or participatory inventories, the decolonial cultural mediation in museums and the creation of new museum typologies contributing to the cultural development of society.
