Abstract

The lecture will review some of the main schools of thought in contemporary American political philosophy: liberalism, utilitarianism, communitarianism, feminism, race theory, pragmatism, and realism. Our comparative exercise will be structured into several important blocks, built around core concepts in political philosophy: human nature, the origins of morality, the meaning of justice, the nature of politics, political virtues, and the relationship between politics and philosophy.
