Seminar
The social dimensions of storms: risks, inequalities and future directions
April 17, 2026, 15h00-17h00
Room 1, CES | Alta
The recent passage of Storm Kristin across the country has once again highlighted that natural disasters are not merely meteorological phenomena but complex social processes that reveal the vulnerabilities and inequalities within regions. Within the framework of OSIRIS - the Observatory of Risk - this event proposes a critical and transdisciplinary reflection on the experience and lessons learnt from this extreme event.
This seminar provides an opportunity for dialogue on the effects of Storm Kristin and on how local communities experienced the risks, and how they were addressed by public initiatives. The impacts of this storm will be discussed, assessing what has been done and what still needs to be done, not only in the face of the damage but also in response to such climatic events. By bringing together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and fields of activity, the event aims to foster the sharing of knowledge and experiences essential for mitigating future risks.
