Abstract

The Social Studies Center (CES) of the University of Coimbra (UC), through a partnership with the International Step by Step Association (ISSA), has started a new project to promote equitable and caring practices in early childhood, which will take place over the next year.

Funded by the OAK Foundation, this project aims to broaden the field of research and intervention on male caregivers by promoting positive gender norms in early childhood", with Portugal as the first pilot phase of the project.

This project aims to build a multisectoral and more comprehensive approach to gender norm transformative methodologies by involving education professionals and families in the promotion of gender-free educational and caregiving practices. After developing and testing in Portugal methodologies aimed at early childhood, in articulation with the health and education sectors in the scope of the PARENT project (which aims at promoting, raising awareness and involving men in fatherhood and care), coordinated by the ESC and financed by the European Commission, the aim is to extend this approach to other European countries.

Outcomes

- Survey of good practices at national and international level;
