Abstract

The EU has almost 15 million mobile EU citizens who are of voting age and eligible to vote but many citizens are not aware of their electoral rights. At the same time, mobile EU citizens who are aware and decide to participate in elections face a various range of challenges when accessing their political rights. PRODEMO project aims to promote the political participation of EU mobile citizens in Italy, Portugal and Belgium and increase their civic engagement.


The project aims to:


-Identify good practices for the promotion of EU mobile citizens political participation, with a focus on the use of mobile tools
-Inform EU mobile citizens on their political rights and on the procedures to participate in EP and local elections
-Increase the capabilities of CSOs and NGOs to promote the political participation of EU mobile citizens
-Increase the awareness of citizens, CSOs, NGOs and public authorities on the importance of political participation of EU mobile citizens
-Inform and increase the civic engagement of EU mobile citizens with the PRODEMO app
-Inform CSOs, NGOs and public authorities on the challenges and the good practices to increase the participation of EU mobile citizens

Outcomes

Expected results
-Increased knowledge on political rights and on the procedures to follow to participate in EP and local elections of the of EU mobile citizens
-Increased civic engagement of the citizens reached by the PRODEMO app
-Increased knowledge of CSOs, NGOs and public authorities of the challenges and the good practices to increase the participation of EU mobile citizens
-Increased capabilities of the personnel CSOs and NGOs on promoting the political participation of EU mobile citizens and increasing their civic engagement
-Increased electoral and non-electoral participation rate of the EU mobile citizens reached by the project activities
-Improved public authorities’ communication and information methodologies targeted at EU mobile citizens to promote their political participation
