Access to law and Popular Mobilization
November 22, 2013, 09h30

Presentation
In recent decades, claims for non-discrimination, inclusion and social justice have been addressed taking into account the relationship between law, social movements, identity, cultural representation and democracy. Forms of resistance against neoliberal predation, ecological degradation, racism, patriarchy, homophobia, impairment of disabled people, among others, emerge, increasingly, in the legal arena. In more recent times, the consolidation of a social and political paradigm based on austerity challenges action repertoires of collective actors. In this scenario, it is necessary to understand the role that law may or may not occupy in the social counter-hegemonic struggles. Can Law can be assume itself as a transforming resistance against forms of oppression, silencing, subordination and degradation that are housed in structures and dominant values of our societies?
