Rosa Monteiro
Biography
PhD in Sociology from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and the Centre for Social Studies. Associate Professor at FEUC and researcher at CES. Coordinator of the Master's Programme in Sociology and the PhD Programme in Sociology - Labour Relations, Social Inequalities and Trade Unionism. Served as Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality in the XXI and XXII Constitutional Governments (2017-2022), with political responsibility and oversight for gender equality; prevention and combat of violence against women and domestic violence; LGBTI+ rights; trafficking in human beings; the fight against racism and racial discrimination; inclusion of Roma communities; and migration. Research over the past decade has centred on public policies for equality and non-discrimination, gender mainstreaming, and national equality bodies. Work has consistently focused on gender social relations, particularly in the fields of work, employment, organizations and public policies. Research includes studies on the construction of gender identities in workplaces and on the experiences of working mothers within the context of intensive maternalisation. Participation in the evaluation of the Second and Third National Plans for Equality. Member of the evaluation team for "Gender Mainstreaming in Structural Funds: QREN and ERDF." Doctoral dissertation, "State Feminism in Portugal: mechanisms, strategies, policies and metamorphoses," developed a case study on the main national equality body and its articulations with women's movements and other political actors in the production of equality policies. Principal Investigator of STEMGenderIn (Erasmus), Women4Digital: Gender in the ICT Landscape in Portugal (FCT-PLANAPP), and GENDEI - Gender and DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Indicators for European and Latin American Technological Companies and Related Training Strategies (MSCA-SE EU). Advisor in several projects promoting Equality Plans in Municipalities and NGOs. Author of multiple publications on these themes.
